BR Electric Locos & units

Here is a selection of the electric locomotives which were available. The pantograph locomotives could collect from the track or the overhead wires via a switch on the roof.

EMU E3001 EM2
The first electric prototype was modelled on a 2-NOL set  This is E3001 which was nearly a Hornby Dublo model - this is an early example with two pantographs Electra' was based on the EM2 class of loco used on the 1500v DC system between Sheffield and Manchester - this is the green version
EM2 Primary steeple cab
Tri-ang Hornby re-issued the EM2 in BR blue with the double arrow symbol. This is from a CKD kit The steeple cab loco was a freelance electric model - this has a Jouef pantograph The loco was produced in maroon for the primary series but had a plastic pantograph and only collected current from the track
